My Swing Stats

I had a launch monitor session with one of the instructors at Spring Creek driving range yesterday and the following are the results from that session. I got this free (normally about $40.00 – but they test and analyze more on a full session) with the purchase of a club (An Adams a2 OS 4 Hybird). It lasted only about 15 minutes and he tested only the driver. I took a few swings with my Wilson driver and some of the readings like spin rate didn’t even register on the machine and I was not hitting it long enough and high enough. I then switched to Nike SQ driver with a 10.5 loft and the results are night and day – had a 200 yard with too much back spin on the ball. The instructor said I was hanging back on the right side a bit too long and that’s putting too much spin on the ball. Also, I noticed there was consistent fade (not slice) on all of the drives so far. I then switched to a Cleveland Hi Bore with 10.5 degree loft and the results were way better. The following is the summary of 2 swings with the Cleveland driver. I know the results are not completely accurate because I don’t think I can hit right down the center line on every drive – but this session at least gave me a feel for my swing speed and ball speed coming off of the club. This data is definitely helpful in choosing the right shaft for any future club I might buy.

Short game

Found this articile on the PGA page, the ratios are interesting to study - Useful when selecting clubs.

Club based on the carry-to-roll ration.

To fly the ball half the total distance and let it roll the final half, use pitching wedge.

PW = 50 percent air, 50 percent roll

SW = 70 percent air, 30 percent roll

A 9- or 8-iron will carry about one-third the distance to the hole and roll about two-thirds.

8-iron = 35 percent air, 65 percent roll

Recommended no more than a 7-iron, which should fly the ball about a quarter of the way.

7 iron = 25 percent air, 75 percent roll

Play the ball one inch back from the middle of your stance. Your hands should be in line with your left heel so the shaft of the club leans forward. Put 60 percent of your weight on your front foot. Encourages you to make contact while the club is descending.

How to break 90

We were at the B & B bookstore and KS pointed out the book "How to Break 90: An Easy Approach For Breaking Golf's Toughest Scoring Barrier". It defenitely is an interesting book. You can probably finish reading it within Three hours. Not worth buying it. But a good book to finish in the bookstore itself. :) We are aware of our faults , but the book still enforces certain points which I tend to forget.
It asks us to set the goal to 90 instead of 72. Keep 90 as the personal par count. For each hole an extra shot. Plus the general "in-regulation" rule is to have the ball in the green while two shots less than the par. With 90 is as the PAR limit then we get to have an extra shot. They have several theories about the placement of feet with respect to drag and fade shots. And they do stress on the shoulder rotation. They go into a indepth explanation of a good swing.
Give it a try and please do share your wisdom :)

Demo Clubs are here !!!

Finally got my demo clubs yesterday - Adams a2 OS Iron Set with Graffaloy Pro Launch 75 gram graphite shafts. Here is the picture of the clubs, if you are interested. I have to say they do LOOK great - not sure how they play yet :-) Was planning on taking them to the range last night - but then ofcourse one can count on work to come in the way at the right time.

I will post back later with my experience with the set once I get a chance to go the range, hopefully this Saturday (before Sunday's round :-))

Relief from Cart paths

Was hit by this ball close to the cart path on three instances this Wednesday, So checked up the rule and here is what I found.

A player may obtain relief without penalty from paths if the path interferes with his stance and/or intended line of swing and the ball DOES NOT LIE IN A WATER HAZARD, LATERAL WATER HAZARD, OR THE "WOODS".

Relief shall be stance plus one club length from the fairway side of the path. There shall be NO RELIEF WITHOUT PENALTY from a path if the ball rests in a HAZARD OR THE "WOODS" (Private Paths).
